South Asian Patients Are Running Out of Time.
For patients with blood cancer, a bone marrow transplant is their only hope. But for South Asians, the odds of finding a match are less than 40%. MarrowLink is a student-led movement dedicated to closing this gap.
Why This Matters
A patient’s best chance of finding a genetic match is with someone who shares their ethnic background. But our community is critically underrepresented in the global donor pool.
<40%
Chance of a South Asian patient finding a donor.
79%
Chance for a white patient to find a match.
1 in 3
South Asian patients will never find the match they need.
What We Do
We are a student-led initiative closing the donor gap through three key pillars. We are an awareness organization, not a registry. We partner with Be The Match® to connect potential donors to the official national registry.
Educate
We host free virtual and in-person workshops to dispel myths and explain the urgent need for South Asian donors.
Empower
We train and support student volunteers to become leaders and organize registration drives in their own communities.
Register
We organize drives at temples, schools, and cultural centers to make joining the official Be The Match® registry simple and accessible.
Our Impact So Far
Our work is just beginning, but our community has already started to take action.

What is Bone Marrow Donation?
Bone marrow is the soft, spongy tissue inside bones that produces life-saving blood cells. For patients with blood cancers like leukemia, a transplant of healthy marrow from a donor is often their only chance for a cure. Registering as a donor simply means you're willing to be a match. The first step is a painless cheek swab.
